Imagine if you could be a mermaid...

In a world where you can be anything... Be a mermaid!

Today is my stop on the Riley Blake Designs, Indigo Garden Blog Tour and I am so excited to share the whimsical makes I made inspired by Heather Peterson's bright and cheerful fabrics.

The sweet small scale of the florals, and the wonderful line-work and textured appearance that Heather Peterson's artwork brings, makes this fabric collection perfect for small makes like Doll Making! Indigo Garden Fabric is such a stunning collection!

The color palette in the Indigo Garden collection is so vibrant that you can't help but smile and feel happy when you play with these fabrics!

With so much color and variety in this collection, I decided I had to make a project that was full of imagination and whimsy. I chose to mash together two of our most popular Doll patterns. I used the limbs with floral sandals and bracelet from the Beach Day Doll Pattern and the main body from the Julia Butterfly Doll (sans butterfly). I just love how she turned out.

Of course I just had to make 3 dolls, each with their own colorway of fabrics and skin, eye and hair color. I added a handmade felt flower to each of their hair as well. I love how happy these friends are together!

This bright and happy fabric was just calling to me to make these dolls full of imagination and I know we could all use a bit of a "getaway" and some travel right now... sooo... Mermaid Tails for all three dolls were made. These Mermaid Tails are so beautiful and textured. The embroidery machine pattern stitches out the scales and using a thin, cut-away stabilizer, it gives the tail just the right amount of body and stability to hold the shape of the tail, without being heavy or cumbersome.

Just take a look at how yummy these stitches are! They make my crafty heart so happy!

I wanted to use as many of the fabric prints and colors in this collection as I could and so I made each doll an adorable ruffle-hemmed top. I used the Spring Fling Dress Pattern and shortened the skirt to 3" unfinished. Then continued with the finishing directions.

I couldn't be happier how these sweet friends turned out!

Even though I don't have any big travel plans or warm winter vacations planned at the moment, making these bright, colorful and whimsical dolls was a wonderful chance to imagine the heat and ocean waves crashing at our feet!
